Interlibrary Loan
If the library doesn’t own a book that you want, we do not purchase it, and you are a resident of Bethlehem, Bethlehem Township, Fountain Hill, Freemansburg, Hanover Township (Northampton County), or Lower Saucon Township, we will borrow it from another library for you. You may request interlibrary loans at the Information Desk, by phone at 610-867-3761 ext. 224, or by filling in, printing out and returning the online Interlibrary Loan Request form. The lending library sets the due date for us. We can request one renewal for you, but there is no guarantee that the library that owns the book will grant the renewal.
We can also get photocopies of journal articles for you if they are not available in our library or online. There is usually a charge for this. Fill out the form online or call it in by phone, or come to the Information Desk.
We borrow only print material on interlibrary loan – no music, audiobooks, or videos or DVDs. We cannot borrow reference materials, current textbooks, or copies of whole journals
You must be a resident of our direct service area and have a current Bethlehem library card. If you have an Access card, we cannot do an interlibrary loan for you; you must go to your home library.
The average turnaround time for an interlibrary loan is two weeks. There is a $.50 handling charge when you pick it up, and an additional $1.00 charge if you do not pick it up. You will be notified by mail or email, whichever you prefer, when your item is ready for pickup.
If you have questions, you may also email interlibraryloan@bapl.org
