1.
Adult Services Periodicals Technician
Department: Adult Services
Division: Administration/Buildings/Public Service
Supervisor: Head of Adult Services
QUALIFICATIONS
A. College degree
B. Some background in library work helpful
C. Ability to work well with the public 
D. Physical mobility in order to reach all shelving
E. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with others in person, on the telephone, and by email
F. Competence in the use of a computer and ability to search the internet
G. Mechanical ability in order to assist patrons in the use of all equipment on the public floor, such as the photocopiers, microfilm readers, computers, printers, etc. 
The Periodicals Technician provides general reference service and has certain regular tasks as listed below 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. General reference work at the information desk
B. Checks in all magazines using the Sierra serials subsystem. Distributes new issues, pulls old issues. Updates all magazine lists, including OCLC Union List, EbscoHost and Access PA
C. Processes invoices for the Serials budget, the Reference budget, and the Standing Orders budget
D. Other duties, as assigned

Working one night per week and every other Saturday is required. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required.

A.    Title: Temporary Library Assistant

B.     Location: Main and/or South Side

C.     Department: Circulation, Youth Services, and/or South Side

D.    Supervisor: Head of Circulation, Head of Youth Services, and/or Branch Manager

 

II.                QUALIFICATIONS

A.    Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with patrons and staff

B.     Flexibility

C.     Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job (lifting, bending, reaching, stooping, standing)

D.    Ability to make efficient use of time

E.     Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

F.      Must be at least 16 years of age

 

III.             JOB SUMMARY

A Temporary Library Assistant is responsible for returning library material to its proper shelf location, inspecting materials for damage and cleaning as needed before shelving, monitoring new books, and assisting with various tasks of the library.

 

IV.             MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A.    Shelving library materials

B.     Checking library materials in and out

C.     Checking AV to ensure all items are accounted for and clean

D.    Keeping shelves in orderly condition

E.     Shelf-reading for accuracy of items on the shelf

F.      Being alert to notice items that may have damage upon return, then informing proper Circulation staff member of that condition

G.    Assisting patrons

H.    Rotating new books on and off the new book shelf

I.       Rotating seasonal books from storage area

J.       Researching craft and/or program component ideas

K.    Making craft samples and preparing pieces for projects/programs

L.     Creating displays of titles, as needed

M.   Occasionally assisting program presenters

N.    Assisting with changing status of materials in database, as needed

O.    Other duties, as assigned

Temporary Library Assistants will work at the library from June-August 2017. The hours range from 10-27 per week and pay is $8 per hour. Working some nights and/or Saturdays may be required. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required.

E.     Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

F.      Must be at least 16 years of age

 

III.             JOB SUMMARY

A Shelver is responsible for the timely shelving of all items that have been returned to their proper shelf location. They will check AV items for damage and clean as needed before shelving.

C.     Checking AV to ensure all items are clean

D.    Keeping shelves in orderly condition

E.     Shelf-reading for accuracy of items on the shelf

F.      Being alert to notice items that may have damage upon return, then informing proper Circulation staff member of that condition
