Children Design and Make Quilt for Library

Twenty-five people including 15 children are participating in a quilt project at the library under the direction of Mary Lou Brion.

The quilt will be donated to the library for permanent display.

The project was started in a summer quilting class conducted by Mrs. Brion. Designs were suggested by the children.

They include blocks featuring the tea house, the bookmobile, children of all colors, a wise old owl and a moon representing knowledge, a card catalog, a bookworm, a rabbit jigsaw puzzle among other things.

Some of the subjects may "require some explanation," said Mrs. Brion. They represent characters in favorite books, like "Sam and the Firefly."

After the blocks were made during the class sessions, the quilt was put on a frame in the children's section of the library and anyone interested could quilt on it.

It was a fun kind of project, said Mrs. Brion, because the children participated as equals and shared their ideas.

The original plan had been to raffle off the quilt for the benefit of the library but the group is so pleased with the results they don't want to let it go.
