Bethlehem Author Joyce Hinnefeld’s “Beautiful” New Book

The newest title from Wolfson Press’ prestigious “American Storytellers Series” is from right here in Bethlehem. Joyce Hinnefeld, professor of English at Moravian College, is celebrating the release of her latest book The Beauty of Their Youth at the Bethlehem Area Public Library on March 17 at 5:30pm.

Joyce has previously published the novels In Hovering Flight and Stranger Here Below, as well as the short story collection Tell Me Everything and Other Stories.

beauty of youth book coverThe characters in The Beauty of Their Youth show the complexity and depth of Professor Hinnefeld’s quest to find meaning in the modern world. We meet an outspoken artist trying to paint one true moment in a woman’s life, a middle-aged woman revisiting her time as a naïve college exchange student, and several characters who question the reliability of their own memories. How did we get here? How do we make sense of life in the twenty-first-century? What comes next?

Advance reviews for the book includes strong praise from well-known writers such as Carmen Maria Machado, Lee Upton, and Stephanie Powell Watts, who gushed: “This book is a knockout.”

The book launch at BAPL will present Joyce “in conversation” with another acclaimed wordsmith from Bethlehem, novelist Kate Racculia. “I met Joyce when I moved to the Lehigh Valley in 2014, and we’ve had so many terrific conversations about writing and life–and everything in between–over the years. I can’t wait to share our conversation about this wonderful collection, and introduce it to readers.”

This lively literary discussion will be followed by a book-signing; books will be available for purchase.
