The African American poet and author, Langston Hughes, wrote the poems for the book The Sweet and Sour Animal Book in 1936, but the collection wasn’t published until 1994. Children attending the Harlem School of the Arts illustrated this book.
Children are invited to peruse through these poems, select one of their liking to copy. Then, using Claytoon modeling clay, they will let their imagination run wild and create their own sweet or sour animal to match the poem they’ve chosen. All ages are welcome to participate while supplies last.
