Matt Wolf wins Lehigh Valley Music Award for Spoken Word!

Matt Wolf

Award-winning spoken word artist Matt Wolf

BAPL employee Matt Wolf was honored at the Musikfest Cafe on Sunday night along with names like A-town Slim, Philadelphia Funk Authority, and Trouble City All-Stars. No, Matt isn’t a secret rock star at night — it was an award for his poetry! The award was given to Matt by the Lehigh Valley Music Awards in the category of Outstanding Spoken Word.

Matt, who has been a library employee since 2011, was born in Bethlehem and graduated from Liberty High School before attending college and eventually moving to California. He returned to the area in 2010 and continued performing his own work, writing poetry, and soon began to host open mics and performances.

“It means a lot to win this,” he says. “I struggled some moving back to the Lehigh Valley, but through perseverance and support from countless people I feel blessed to be able to contribute creatively to my community.” He thanks his family, girlfriend Jen Smalling, the artists of the Lehigh Valley, and BAPL Director Josh Berk for support. The library published his debut poetry collection this year.

You can purchase a copy of MY JOURNEY here to support the library. Way to go, Wolfman!
