Walt Whitman Celebration at BAPL and audio recording of Leaves of Grass

In 2019, the Bethlehem Area Public Library is joining poetry-lovers the world over in celebrating the 200th birthday of the great American poet Walt Whitman (born May 31, 1819). On April 30th we held a read-aloud of Song of Myself in its entirety.

Leading up to this event, we hosted Ed Gallagher, Professor of English, Emeritus from Lehigh University, in our recording studio. Ed has a wonderful reading voice and does a fabulous job with Whitman’s moving poetry. So we present here as a gift to the residents of Bethlehem and beyond, a full recording of Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself, presented by Professor Ed Gallagher.

Thank you, Ed, and thank you to our sound engineer Sam Radogna for his work on this as well! Enjoy and happy birthday, Walt!
