Job Openings at BAPL

The Bethlehem Area Public Library is seeking a part-time Information Technician. The position is 15 hours per week and includes one night per week and every other Saturday. The pay is $17.37 per hour. PA criminal, FBI fingerprint, and PA child abuse clearances are required. Two job descriptions are below. One is a temporary job description that will be in place for the duration of the pandemic. The other is the job description that will be effective once regular service resumes.

POSITION

Title:  Information Technician
Department:  Adult Services
Supervisor: Head of Adult Services

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree
  • Computer knowledge and ability to search the internet
  • General library experience and knowledge of library databases helpful
  • Ability to work well with the public
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with others in person, by email, and on the telephone
  • Ability to push a full cart of books
  • Physical mobility in order to reach all shelving, electrical connections and computer cables
  • Manual dexterity allowing for efficient handling of books, videos, and other library materials
  • Mechanical ability in order to assist patrons in the use of all equipment on the public floor such as the photocopiers, microfilm/microfiche reader printers,  computers, printers, etc.

JOB SUMMARY (TEMPORARY)

The Information Technician answers reference questions under the supervision of a Reference Librarian.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (TEMPORARY)

  • Answering questions posed by the public via phone, email, or in person
