The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a part-time Youth Services Technician. The position is 25 hours per week and pay is $17.37 per hour. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Professional experience related to youth programming and library service required. Working two nights per week and every other Saturday is required. The typical schedule and full job description are below. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Four year college degree or equivalent
  2. Must have at least one year professional experience related to youth programming and library service
  3. Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with patrons and staff
  4. Must be flexible, able to multitask and prioritize
  5. Must take initiative and use time efficiently
  6. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

 

III.       JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Services Technician is responsible for assisting the Head of Youth Services in all aspects of service in the Youth Services Department.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide excellent customer service, including reference and reader’s advisory
  2. Issue library cards and introduce children and teens to the Youth Services department
  3. Plan and implement programs, including selection of age-appropriate titles and a learning activity for story times
  4. Perform Circulation duties at the service desk
  5. Give tours of the Youth Services room and the library to groups
  6. Assist with collection management: inventory, weeding, suggestions for purchase, mending of items, ordering of materials
  7. Assist with Family Place programming, as called upon
  8. Review professional journals relating to Youth Services
  9. Read and review new materials
  10. Keep abreast of new trends for children and teens on the web/social media
  11. Assist with outreach, as called upon
  12. Other duties, as assigned

 

INDIVIDUAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare school participant sheets for summer binder
  2. Maintain and monitor toy collection and notebooks, including photographing new toys
  3. Mend juvenile collection, as needed
  4.  Read reviews for and order eBook selections
  5. Help with the creation and updating of event handouts
