The Bethlehem Area Public Library is seeking a part-time Youth Services Technician. The position is 20 hours per week and includes one night per week and every other Saturday. The pay is $17.37 per hour. PA criminal, FBI fingerprint, and PA child abuse clearances are required. The official job description is below:



Job Description


POSITION: Youth Services Technician
Department: Youth Services, Main Library
Supervisor: Head of Youth Services


  1. Four year college degree or equivalent
  2. Must have at least one year professional experience related to youth programming and library service
  3. Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with patrons and staff
  4. Must be flexible, able to multitask and prioritize
  5. Must take initiative and use time efficiently
  6. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job


The Youth Services Technician is responsible for assisting the Head of Youth Services in all aspects of service in the Youth Services Department


  1. Provide excellent customer service, including reference and reader’s advisory
  2. Issue library cards and introduce children and teens to the Youth Services department
  3. Plan and implement programs, including selection of age-appropriate titles and learning activities for story times and family events
  4. Perform Circulation duties at the service desk
  5. Give tours of the Youth Services room and the library to groups
  6. Assist with collection management: inventory, weeding, suggestions for purchase, mending of items, ordering of materials, as assigned
  7. Assist with Family Place programming, as called upon
  8. Review professional journals relating to Youth Services
  9. Read and review new materials
  10. Keep abreast of new trends for children and teens on the web/social media
  11. Assist with outreach, as called upon
  12. Other duties, as assigned


  1. Prepare letters to be sent to potential donors for System summer program prizes
  2. Prepare and distribute appreciation letters and certificates to summer program donors
  3. Gather, display, and manage distribution of summer prizes for System
  4. Maintain and monitor toy collection, including updating of public browsing binder
  5. Assist with the creation and updating of event handouts
