The Bethlehem Area Public Library is currently seeking a full-time Reference Librarian as well as two part-time Circulation Clerks.

REFERENCE LIBRARIAN:

The Reference Position position is 37.5 hours per week and includes one night per week and every other Saturday. A competitive benefits package is offered and the salary is $44,011.50. PA criminal, FBI fingerprint, and PA child abuse clearances are required. The official job description is attached. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Library Science with a minimum of 2 years of public library experience
  • Knowledge of reference collection management and databases, both print and electronic
  • Physical mobility in order to reach all shelving, electrical connections, and computer cables. Ability to push a cart full of books
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with others in person, by telephone and email, works well with the public
  • Manual dexterity allowing for efficient handling of books, videos, and other library materials
  • Mechanical ability in order to assist patrons in the use of all the equipment on the public floor such as the photocopiers, microfilm reader printers, computers, printers, etc.
  • Experience working with local history collections and library archives preferred
  • Experience in digitization and metadata preferred

JOB SUMMARY

The Reference Librarian does general reference work and maintains the Reference and Bethlehem Room collections. The Reference Librarian works closely with the Head of Adult Services on local history projects. The Reference Librarian is also responsible for oversight of monthly reports and orders yearly tax documents for the public.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. General reference work

B. Read reviews and order Bethlehem Room and Reference materials

C. Periodically weed and take inventory of Bethlehem Room and Reference collections

D. Perform archival and digitization work on the Bethlehem Room collection

E. Read professional journals relating to position

F. Oversight of proctored exams

G. Read notices and order government and tax documents

H. Review standing serial orders

I. Other duties and projects as assigned
