Part-Time Youth Services Technician

The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a part-time Youth Services Technician. This position is approximately 26 hours per week and pay is $20 per hour. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Working one night per week and every other Saturday is required. The Bethlehem Area Public Library is an equal opportunity employer. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Four year college degree or equivalent
  2. Must have at least one year professional experience related to youth programming and library service
  3. Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with patrons and staff
  4. Must be flexible, able to multitask and prioritize
  5. Must take initiative and use time efficiently
  6. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Services Technician is responsible for assisting the Head of Youth Services in all aspects of service in the Youth Services department.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide excellent customer service, including reference and reader’s advisory
  2. Plan and implement engaging programs for children, teens, and families that include age-appropriate content, address literacy and learning
  3. Perform Circulation duties at the service desk
  4. Assist with the creation of flyers for youth events
  5. Assist with collection management: inventory, weeding, suggestions for purchase, ordering as assigned
  6. Review professional journals relating to service to youth
  7. Read and review newly acquired materials
  8. Keep abreast of new trends for children, teens, and families
  9. Assist with outreach, as called upon
  10. Other duties, as assigned

 

INDIVIDUAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Read reviews for and order e-book selections for youth, as assigned
  2.  Maintain budget for assigned purchases
  3. Check in new youth items, apply needed genre labels, place in public area
  4. Assist with tracking summer program participation and distribution of incentives
