On the morning of July 10, BAPL hosted a library program held in an unusual setting…the woods!
A few months ago, Quaint Oak Bank reached out to us about sponsoring library programs centered on conservation and sustainability. That conversation grew into a sponsorship of BAPL’s Seed Library as well as an idea for a guided hike for library patrons at Black River Sanctuary. The library promoted the event, accepted registrations, and gathered a group of approximately 25 BAPL hikers for an hour-long educational walk on a hot summer morning. Led by a Wildlands Conservancy environmental educator, participants learned about the flora and fauna of the region while exploring the sanctuary’s trails. Along the way, the educator shared animal pelts and feathers, discussed local wildlife and habitats, and provided an engaging overview of the ecosystems that make our area so unique.
The hike was a wonderful opportunity to connect learning, nature, and community while demonstrating that libraries can inspire curiosity far beyond their buildings. Everyone had a great time, and we’re grateful to Quaint Oak Bank and Wildlands Conservancy for helping make the program possible. We hope to offer similar outdoor experiences again soon!
